Reflection #2 on "The Man You Want Me To Be" by Phil Joel  [song lyrics]

Phil Joel - ''bring it on'' (2002)

I've been listening all my life;
Words are spoken all the time.
I have heard the liars and the true voices twisting in the air,
Sweetly sounding so unclear,
But nothing can replace a word
From You.

Sometimes life gets noisy. Sometimes it seems that everyone has an opinion about everything, but no one really knows anything. We have experts to analyze, and technicians to synthesize, and even psychics who dramatize. But who knows the truth? Jesus does, and He is willing to share.

I love the words to the song "The Man You Want Me To Be." They clearly declare that nothing can replace a word from the Lord. The Bible tells us:

"How sweet are your words to my taste!
Yes, sweeter than honey to my mouth!
From Your precepts I get understanding;
Therefore I hate every false way.
Your word is a lamp to my feet
And a light to my path" (Psalm 119:103-105 NASB).

"My son, give attention to my words;
Incline your ear to my sayings.
Do not let them depart from your sight;
Keep them in the midst of your heart.
For they are life to those who find them
And health to all their body" (Proverbs 4:20-22 NASB).

God's Word is what we need when we are in trouble. God's Word is what we need when we are in pain. God's Word is what we need when we are confused. His words give light and clarity and comfort. Open your Bible today, and I am sure you will agree with Phil Joel. Nothing can replace a word from God!
